Measuring

Simply measure the width and drop of the visible glass size of each window or door.

Measure from where the glass meets up with the rubber seal (not including any of the rubber seal in the measurement).

Making sure that the window is ‘not out of square’ it is worth checking the width measurment at the top, middle and bottom to make sure they are the same. If there is some variation, then provide us with the shortest measurement.

Ideally, we look for the sizes to be given width and then height and in mm’s if possible, though will help convert them if you are using any other unit of measurement.

bead depth

To allow us to provide you with the correct size brackets for your windows, we need to establish the bead depth.

We find the best way to do this is to place say a bank card over the corner of the beading, and then take a tape measure, and measure from the glass, back to the bank card.

The common sizes are normally around 18mm and 30mm.

Some windows and doors may have a shallower bead depth, however ths smallest bracket available (across the industry) would be 18mm, which means that if you had a bead depth of say 12mm, then the blind frame itself may be sitting of the window a touch.  The blind itself should still be secure, however we would advise that you purchase some ‘white cusion draft excluder tape’ just to take your eye off the gap and for it to look inkeeping with the blind and window.

OBSTRUCTIONS

The frame of the blind effectively sits within the unit of the UPVC window or door and overlaps the beading slightly.  It creeps around 5mm over the top of the beading, so we need to make sure there isn’t any obstructions that may interfere with the frame, like a door handle, window handle, or sometimes in some cases, a returning wall.

Bi-Fold doors we need to bare in mind the door handle, though a less obviously obstacle, is the blind frame’s hitting each other when the doors are folded open, where it could actually stop the doors from actually opening as they fold into one another (as the frame doesn’t sit flush, and will be off the door by around 20mm).

Window handles, as mentioned, can interfere with the frame, though even without it touching the frame, we need to bare in mind when opening/rotating the handle itself, that it is high enough to clear the frame of the blind.  If it was to catch, we may be able to supply you with some handle spacers.
