MEASURING GUIDE FOR STANDARD WINDOWS

A lot of properties will have similar style windows, which would allow blinds to be fitted either within the recess of the window or sometimes on the outside of the recess.

So when coming to give us the sizes, you can either give us the recess size, where we would make the relevant adjustments so they fit snug within the recess, or you can give us the overall finished size which is the size that the finished blind will come at.  Just make sure you tell us what you have measured.

A number of our blinds can be measured the same way.

  • Complete Kits (Vertical Blinds)
  • Fauxwood Blinds (Venetians)
  • Freehanging Aluminium Venetians
  • Roller Blinds
  • Vision (Night and Day) Blinds
  • Replacement Headrail

Recess Size

When measuring the recess size, we are looking for the width and the height of the hole effectivly.

Though becuase sometimes the recess may be out of square, it is always best to take more than one measurment.

  1. So for the width, if you could measure wall to wall, from left to right at the top, middle and then bottom.  You would only provide us with the shortest of the 3. (Bare in mind any obstructions like Dado Rail, Skirting Board or tiles at part of the window, as they would need taken into account)
  2. For the height, if you can measure from the top of the recess down to the sill.  If you can check the drop at the left, middle and right of the window (to make sure the window isn’t running out), and again, only provide us with the shortest of the 3.
  3. When providing us with the size, don’t make any adjustents as we will do that for you.  Just provide the width, height and advise us that it is the recess size.

Remember, just bare in mind any possible obstructions that may have to be taken into account. Dado Rail, Skirting board or tiles that may be within the recess.

** WHEN IT COMES TO A ROLLER BLIND, BECAUSE THE FABRIC IS NOT AS WIDE AS THE WIDEST PART OF THE BLIND, WE WOULD ONLY LOOK FOR THE WIDTH AT THE TOP OF THE WINDOW RECESS, FOR THE BEST FIT.

Exact Size

If you are not fitting within a window recess, though perhaps fitting it outside the recess, then the best way to provide us with the size is to advise us what the overall finished size of the blind is that you require.

Bare in mind, the size is the overall size of the blind, at it’s widest part and longest drop. So for a Vertical Blind complete kit, the drop will be from the top of the headrail to the bottom of the slat. Also for a roller blind, the width including cogs is around 35mm wider that the fabric itself.

  1. Provide us with the overall width you would like the blind. (Remember, if it is outside the recess to overlap enough to cover the whole of the window)
  2. Let us know the drop of the blind (Again, this is the overall size of the blind, including the headrail, top box or roller tube where required.
  3. And finally, confirm to us that the size given is the ‘Exact Size’

Providing the correct information

There may be some additional information required for certain blinds, like what side you would like the controls etc, though they would be detailed in the product listing as each blind is different. Alot of the listings are set up where you need to provide that information at the point of sale.

When it comes to the size, we simply need the width, drop and the size you have taken (Recess, Exact/Blind Size) so we know whether we need to make any adjustments or not.
